The predominant explanation for dog yawns is that it is a calming signal for dogs. Dogs yawn in times of stress or frustration, and the yawn is a behavior that signals a need to take a break. This year, however, scientists have also determined that dogs also yawn in response to their owners’ yawns as an expression of sympathy tiredness.
